    JOB DESCRIPTION - Building Science Specialist
    CR-BPS is seeking an engineer, architect, and/or building science professional to join its growing, dynamic team as a Building Science Specialist. This is a full-time position and offers tremendous growth opportunity.
    This Building Science Specialist will be responsible for supporting and expanding CR-BPS’s 4 core service areas, with an emphasis on: Facility Asset Management and Building Performance. This individual will report to the President and Director of Building Science, and will collaborate with the entire CR-BPS team, assisting with assessments, energy audits, evaluation and analysis of new and existing building systems, identification of building deficiencies and energy conservation opportunities, capital plans and budgets, designs, and verification of anticipated outcomes via testing and monitoring. This position offers tremendous growth opportunity into management and leadership roles within 5 years.

Most importantly, this person must combine a passion for the application of building science innovations and techniques with an understanding of, and dedication to, the furtherance of high performance design.
     Participate in the growth of CR-BPS’s four core areas: Design (High Performance Buildings); Facility Asset Management; Building Performance; and Assessments/Audits – emphasis on Facility Asset Management and Building Performance
     Assist in CR-BPS team in all project phases:
    o Assessment/ Audit
    o Planning
    o Conceptual/ Schematic design
    o Design Development
    o Construction Administration
    o Occupancy and Post Occupancy
    o Testing, Monitoring and Verification
     Visual inspections of facilities and related building systems (Facility Condition Assessments)
     ASHRAE Level I, II and III Energy Audits
     ASTM NIST UNIFORMAT II Elemental Classification of systems
     Life Cycle Assessments
     Relationship-building with clients’ facilities management staff
     Identify Energy Conservation Opportunities (ECO’s) and design how to achieve/accomplish
     Assist in the design of existing and/or new high performance buildings
     Sustainability documentation such as required for LEED certification, Passive House certification, Living Building Challenge certification, Energy Star/Portfolio Manager, Net Positive/Net Zero verification, Minnesota B-3, Green Step Cities
     Energy modeling of existing and new buildings
     Building calculations: quantities of building system components, building dimensions and take-offs, quantify Facility Condition Index (FCI), Energy Usage Intensity (EUI), replacement value (RV), return on investment (ROI), Water Usage Intensity, simple and incremental paybacks, etc.
     Cost Estimating (RS Means)
     Assist in renewable energy system and program design, verification, monitoring and testing
     Building testing – blower door air tightness testing, IR thermography
     On-going research of advancements in sustainable building science practices
     Minimum four year degree in Building Science, Architecture, or Engineering from an accredited college or university
     Licensed Architect or Engineer in Minnesota, preferred (or currently in the pursuit of licensure)
     Additional Certifications, preferred but not mandatory:
    o LEED Accredited Professional
    o Passive House consultant certification
    o Association with USGBC, BOMA, ASHREA, LBC
    o Energy Manager/Auditor Accreditation from a recognized organization/institution
     Minimum of two - five years of experience working in the building science, architecture, or engineering industry
     Preferred experience - successfully working for/with the following customer sectors:
    o Local/state/federal governments, universities, nonprofit organizations, private energy companies
     Successful performance of the following services:
    o Facility Condition Assessments and Energy Audits
    o Physical inspection, evaluation, and documentation of buildings and building systems
    o Identification of Energy Conservation Opportunities
    o Cost Estimating (RS Means)
    o Energy modeling
     Entrepreneurial - Independently motivated, self-starter driven to succeed under limited supervision
     Ability to manage, maintain, and effectively work from a satellite office – metropolitan area of Twin Cities or Duluth, Minnesota, or western, Wisconsin, preferred
     Work collaboratively in a team environment in which team members operate out of satellite offices
     Ability to communicate effectively via phone/web/email/teleconference for meetings, brainstorm sessions, project collaboration, project deliverables, mentorship, etc.
     Effective time management – deadline driven
     Ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, industry peers and CR-BPS team
     Passion for high performance buildings and design – independently seeks opportunities/education to position themselves at the fore front of advancements in building science, sustainability, and high performance design
     Must function from, manage, and operate his or her own satellite office in the metropolitan area of Minneapolis, St. Paul, or Duluth, Minnesota, or western Wisconsin.
     Preferred - Have access in that office to:
    o A reliable motor vehicle
    o A PC computer that is a laptop/portable and is a 2013 or later model. The computer must have large hard drive storage capacity
    o Cell phone with high quality reception (all manufactures acceptable)
    o High speed internet
    o Printer/Scanner/Copier
    o WIFI hot-spot capability is desired but not required
    This position requires a maximum of 30% travel on a national basis (primarily Minnesota and surrounding states).
    The work performed in the field and at client sites requires the ability to lift objects up to 40 pounds and to regularly climb ladders and stairs in order to assess the various building systems (including roofing systems). Must be able to work outside in all MN weather conditions.

     AutoCAD
     BIM (Revit)
     Adobe Creative Suite
     SketchUp
     Microsoft Office Suite
    Knowledge of the following Software/ Technology systems is preferred:
     VFA
     Archibus
     ISES
     Portfolio Manager
     MN B3 Benchmarking
     Department of Energy, Energy Modeling software
     WUFI Modeling
